Rain, Rain

School's starting again. It seems like this happens every year. I think I'm finally to the point that I don't get excited about it anymore. I suppose that's kind of the point of graduate school. Socializing us into thinking of academic work as year round as opposed to 4 months on, 1 month off, 4 on, 3 off. That's fine I suppose, but right now it just seems like a few too many drops are falling from the sky, and I can't catch them all. I gotta get a bigger bucket.

Wow!!!!!!! This is now my new favorite picture!!! Unbelievable!!! But I actively seek markers in time like new semesters. My grannie, who taught school for almost 40 years, still thinks of the "new year" as the time when kids return to the classrooms. Another cool thing? The school year is heavily infused with rituals (unlike fiscal years or even calendar years for some folks).

Yeah, that's a good point. I guess it's ultimately the loss of these markers that I'm lamenting.
