When in Rome

Ahhhh, pictures from my European vacation. Actually, no. This was taken right here in Nashville. You see, the people of Tennessee orginally saw their true calling not as producers of such songs as "I'm Alone and Drunk" and "Terrorist I'm Gonna Kick Your Ass," but rather as a center of culture and learning for the entire country. Thus, the first nickname for Nashville was Athens of the West, not Music City. To celebrate statehood a full scale replica of the Parthenon (along with a bunch of other buildings) was constructed in a large city park in 1896. All of the other buildings were removed shortly after the statehood celebration, but the people demanded not only that the Parthenon stay, but that a more permanent version be built. And the people's wishes were granted-complete with an exact replica of the gilded Athena in the center. A structure which stood for everything turn of the century Nashvillians wanted to be associated with. Now, just over a hundred years later we possess more strip clubs per capita (inlcuding the largest in the world) than any other city in the country. Hey, when the entire country looks to you as the cultural and intellectual leader, sometimes you need a drink...with boobies.

I thought the nickname of the city was Nash Vegas.
Yeah, that's what the locals tend to call it (except for Young Buck, who calls it Cashville). But it is a lot like Vegas here, except that we don't have casinos, can't buy liquour on Sunday, and everything is closed by 10:00 most nights.
